Louise Rachel Kerr
Louise Rachel Kerr was born in a very rural part of Scotland and has been painting and drawing from the age of three.
Growing up with no electricity until she was 12, art was truly her passion. Both parents had been artists and drawing every day was highly encouraged. She was accepted into art Collage in Glasgow at the age of 16 for architecture and fine art. After completing two years of the three year degree, she moved to New York in the United States.
After taking a break from the art field and working in the medical industry for about 10 years, she returned to her true passion, Art.
Discovering soft pastel, she studied under some of New York’s finest Pastel artists, Daniel Greene, Suzanne Young, to name a couple. She was also a member of various art leagues both in Manhattan and Long Island. She started giving live portrait demonstrations in Pastel.
Starbucks gave her 6 stores to exhibit her work and she started to be collected, especially for custom portraits and historical portraits. In 1999 and 2000 she won first prize in Pastel for the New York Art League and exhibited in the national arts Gallery in Manhattan and the Coe Hall Museum on Long Island.
In 2005 she moved to California and became a US citizen. She currently resides in Laguna Beach and will be showing her new works at the Art-a-Faire, July and August, 2012.
Her primary mediums are Pastel and charcoal. Her style is heavily influenced by pastel artists Degas and Cezanne.
